I’m Irina, a surface pattern designer with roots in architecture and interior design. I create hand-drawn textile patterns inspired by childhood memories, folk traditions, seasonal moments, and the quiet beauty of everyday life.
My work blends structure with softness—combining an architect’s eye for composition with a love of storytelling through pattern. Each collection begins with hand-drawn sketches and evolves into designs that celebrate nostalgia, craftsmanship, and connection.
My Story
Creativity has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. My artistic journey began in childhood through formal classical art education, where I spent years studying drawing, watercolor, composition, color theory, and traditional artistic techniques. Later, I continued my studies at a specialized art school, further developing my skills in observational drawing, painting, and visual communication.
This strong foundation in fine art led me to pursue a degree in Architectural Environment Design in Russia, where I learned to think beyond individual objects and consider how design shapes the way people experience spaces. Architecture taught me the importance of proportion, rhythm, balance, and storytelling through visual elements—principles that continue to influence my work today.
After moving to California, I expanded my education by completing an Associate of Science degree in Interior Design with a commercial emphasis. Studying both architecture and interiors deepened my understanding of color, materials, pattern, and the emotional impact of design in everyday environments.
While my formal education focused on spaces, I was always drawn to the details that brought those spaces to life—the textiles, decorative motifs, handcrafted objects, and layered patterns that create a sense of warmth and belonging.
Today, every collection begins with hand-drawn sketches created using a variety of traditional media. I enjoy exploring texture, line, and imperfect details that bring authenticity and character to a design. My work often draws inspiration from folk art, childhood memories, vintage textiles, nature, and the stories passed down through generations.
With a foundation in fine art, architecture, and interior design, I create thoughtfully coordinated collections that balance artistic expression with commercial application. My designs are developed for fabric, children’s products, home décor, stationery, and lifestyle goods, with a focus on creating patterns that feel timeless, meaningful, and emotionally resonant.
Surface pattern design grew from my love of sewing and textiles
Sewing and working with textiles have been a part of my creative life for many years. Through my handmade business, I work with fabric and prints every day, creating thoughtfully crafted textile products.
My love of sewing and textiles inspired me to study surface pattern design so I could create original fabrics from my own artwork. This hands-on experience gives me a practical understanding of how patterns translate from screen to finished product, allowing me to design with both creativity and usability in mind.
